Out Story: Meet Uma

HealMeal started with something simple: I didn't want my husband to feel like he had to give up the food he loved.

When my husband was diagnosed with diabetes in 2012, I watched his relationship with food change.

Pongal at breakfast.
White rice at dinner.
The simple, familiar foods that had always been part of our everyday life.

Slowly, they started disappearing from his plate.

As his wife, I wanted to help. I wanted to find food that could fit into his new way of eating — but still felt like real food.

I tried the products available on the shelves. But too often, “diabetic-friendly” seemed to come with a compromise.

Less flavour.
Less familiarity.
Less of the food we actually enjoyed.

And I kept asking myself: Why should taking care of someone you love mean taking away the food they love?

That question became the reason HealMeal was born.

We wanted to make it easier for families to find authentic, familiar and convenient everyday foods that fit more mindfully into their lives.

Food that tastes like the food you grew up with.
Food that's simple to prepare.
Food that the whole family can enjoy together.

That's what we set out to bring to Singapore.

Today, HealMeal works with food makers who share that belief, bringing thoughtfully selected Indian everyday foods to families here — from rice and dosa to breakfast favourites, meal mixes and pantry staples.

Because we don't believe that being more mindful about what you eat should mean giving up the meals, flavours and traditions that make food feel like home.

We built HealMeal so that food could feel like food again.
